It is paramount that every manager of a given company should be in a position to understand the individual differences between the employees. Some of these differences are reflected regarding values, personalities, perceptions, abilities, and ethics. In the case study, Juanita is supposed to make a decision on whether Juanita should be retained in the workplace or not.
Using Consequential, Rule-Based, and Character Theories, Evaluate Juanita’s Options.
Juanita should apply the consequential theory in making her decision. The theory suggests that the consequences that result from an action determine If an action is right or wrong. In this case, Sandra has done nothing wrong and should, therefore, be retained. On the other hand, the rule-based theory requires one to put themselves in another person’s position in making decisions that will eventually affect them. In this case, Juanita should assume the position of Sandra and evaluate how her decisions would affect her. Character theory, on the other hand, would assist Juanita in deciding based on whether Sandra portrayed acceptable ethical standards.
What Should Juanita do? Why?
Juanita should give Sandra more time to learn her work and she can positively relate with her. She should only opt to dismiss her in the case that she displays some incompetence in her job activities. After all, Sandra has demonstrated a lot of good qualities, only that Juanita wants to have the feeling of control over every other person in the office. For example, Sandra has been open to the management because she has displayed her multiple personalities and has not pretended to be someone she is not. Equally important, she has actively engaged in activities with the other employees and also given her opinion where it was necessary. These characteristics show she is a team player and that her personality cannot get in between her and her job.
