Rise of the Mayo Clinic
            This remains among the leading hospitals in the united states. It is a nonprofit medical clinic located in Rochester in Minnesota. According to Kashyap, O’Horo, & Farmer (2016), the hospital employs about 4500 physicians as well as scientists.  It specializes in treatment of various difficult illness through the tertiary care.  In addition, the clinic spends more than $660 million annually on research (Kashyap, O’Horo, & Farmer, 2016).
The American civil war was the main event leading to the establishment of the hospital. During this time, William Worrall Mayo went to Rochester in 1863 job. He was appointed the examining surgeon for the US military board. He liked the city and requested his family to jo him. After the culmination of the war, he established his medical practice. In addition, he served in different leadership responsibilities in the society. Later, he was joined by his two sons after completing their studies in medicine.
The civil war was the bloodiest war in the American history. The war was fought between 1861 and 1865.  During this time, the united states union faced secessionists in 11 states in the south, which grouped together to form the Confederate States of America. However, the Union, mainly the north won the war hence the united states of America remained. During the form years of serious war, more than 620,000 soldiers died (Taylor, 2005). With the collapse of the south, slave trade and the entire institution of slavery was abolished in the USA. Some of the social effects of the civil war to the American people include rationalization of railroad system, start of the industrialization of the US, and elimination of south’s veto on the western expansion (Cook, 2014).
 
 
 
Part b.
Among the major quality improvement actions taken by the company is the acquisition of at least 15000 mobile devices from Apple for ensuring easy delivery of patient care.  The devises comprised of iPad mini, iPhone and iPad (Wittich et al, 2016).  In addition, the hospital developed an application using the devices known as the synthesis mobile that integrated many of their health systems. Furthermore, other devices have been designed, which help the patients to seeking clinical assistance. What is more, the hospital is developing the Healthkit, an app that is going to warn the users illness signs that require high level of attention (Wright-Peterson, 2016). The different applications are designed to ensure ease in the delivery of service to the patients. In addition, the applications will help to ensure efficiency in the delivery of healthcare services because patients will be able to access healthcare advice from the comfort of their home.
 
Part C: utilization of informatics technologies
Mayo Clinic has predominantly utilized healthcare informatics technologies in the delivery of services.  For example, the clinic has created many apps meant to help it deliver quality services to its customers.  For example, the clinic has developed the Healthkit and synthesis mobile application that helps the clinic to deliver healthcare services to the patients in the most efficient way possible.
Evaluation of how Mayo Clinic uses emerging trends in technology to support its projects and initiatives.
Almost every project designed by the hospitals is in line with the current technology trends. Considering the increasing use of smartphones and other computing devices, the clinic is designing numerous apps to ensure that efficiency in the access of its services by different users across the globe.  In addition, the company bought more than 15000 computing devices from Apple to ease communication and ensure efficiency in service delivery.  This is a clear indication that the hospital is utilizing the current technology trends in supporting its initiatives and projects.
