Honda Automobiles was started in 1948 by Soichiro Honda (Honda Motor Co. Ltd.). After numerous unsuccessful attempts to start a motor vehicle manufacturing company, he finally managed to develop one using the help of Kihachiro Kawashima and Takeo Fujisawa, who were experts in business and marketing (Honda Motor Co. Ltd.). Currently, the company manufactures various mechanical products, such as automobiles, motorcycles, power equipment, engines, robots, mountain bikes, and aircrafts. Similarly, Honda Automobiles has diversified its market by selling its products in North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and Australia.
As of 2007, Honda had 405 subsidiaries, including Honda Qatar (Honda Motor Co. Ltd.). Through these subsidiaries, the company has been able to make its mark in the automobile industry. By 2007, the company had grown to be the largest manufacturer of motorcycles and was one of the leading makers of vehicles. In Qatar, Honda markets its products through Doha Marketing Services Company (DOMASCO), which is a division of the Al-Futtaim Group (Honda Motor Co. Ltd.). The Al-Futtaim Group was formerly known as Hamad and Mohammed Al-Futtaim Company and has been in Qatar since 1965 (Honda Motor Co. Ltd.). Through the latter’s robust network of automobile service centers and expertise about Qatar’s market, Honda has managed to embolden its presence in the country.
The business prospects for Honda in Qatar are positive because of the appropriate business strategies that DOMASCO has implemented. DOMASCO has showrooms in Markhiya (on Khalifa Street) and on Salwa Road (opposite HSBC bank) (Honda Motor Co. Ltd.). It also has a dealer, International Auto Trading Company (IATC) in Al Sadd. DOMASCO’s service center is in Industrial Area, on Street 10 (Honda Motor Co. Ltd.). Furthermore, it also has three quick service centers in Doha, Duhail, and Al Khor (Honda Motor Co. Ltd.). Due to the strategic areas of the country where DOMASCO has established its Honda service centers, the latter will continue to succeed in its Qatar operations.
