In the analysis of the hospital structure, Memorial Hospital should assess the characteristics of the health care overall settings and infrastructure. Basically, this will include an analysis of the competence of the healthcare personnel, the availability of healthcare machinery, and the hospitals internal policies. Analysis of health care using this method may include evaluating if the theater has skillful operators and machineries to conduct various forms of surgery. (Morris & Bailey, 2014).
Generally, this measure checks the procedures involved in the treatment of patients. Processes in a hospital setting may include methods such as evidence-based treatment. In this assessment, the hospital will evaluate the consistency in the use of the hospital’s health procedures in order to ensure there is a regular provision of high-quality healthcare (Morris & Bailey, 2014).
Outcomes analysis in a healthcare setup entails the analysis of the success rate in the treatment of patients in the health facility. In this case, Memorial Hospital will check the survival rate of its patients. Basically, this is an important indicator of the health facilities personnel ability to treat various injuries and diseases.
Patient experience is an important indicator of the quality of the healthcare facility in the hospital. Importantly, the patients’ feedbacks will indicate the areas that the Memorial hospital should improve. Memorial Hospital objective of protecting the shareholders interest may present potential costs and challenges. On one hand, the hospital has a duty of protecting the shareholders interests by making maximum profits, while on the other; it has a duty of providing adequate, affordable and accessible healthcare to the community. If the hospital concentrates so much in protecting the shareholders interest it may come at a cost of not providing healthcare to the poor. Similarly, if it concentrates so much on the provision of affordable and accessible health care it may make huge losses (Basu, Little, & Millard, 2009).
Techniques From Total Quality Management (TQM)
TQM entails the company having an overall view of all factors that affect its operations and the effect of each objective in enabling the company to become profitable. In light of this, Memorial Hospital should ensure that its services are focused on providing quality healthcare to the patients. Basically, the hospital can do this by training its personnel and hiring competent staff (Aized, 2012). Moreover, it can encourage employees involvement in the formulation of policies.
In addition to this, the hospital can encourage the use of a process thinking method to ensure efficiency. Notably, the hospital should enforce the use of evidence-based treatment method in its health care provision to encourage process thinking. Correspondingly, this will lead to a fact-based decision-making tactic and the use of a systematic approach to the health care. On the same breath, the hospital should integrate its entire healthcare system so that its activities are well coordinated (Aized, 2012).
Methods to Assess Quality
Assessment of quality of health care provided is important in ensuring that the hospital consistently provides high-quality health care to patients. One of the most effective methods of assessing the quality of the healthcare that the hospital provides is through the use of a balanced scorecard. Memorial hospital should use a balanced scorecard to measure the quality of health care that it provides to patients (Poureisa, Ahmadgourabi, & Efteghar, 2013).
In brief, the balanced scorecard is underpinned on the criteria of rigor in purpose, measurement and application. In light of this, the balanced scorecard will measure the hospitals competencies in the provision of quality health care to customers and its ability to learn new methods. In addition, it will also measure the efficiency of its internal business processes and commitment to the shareholder, as well as its ability to control and manage finances while still providing quality health care (Poureisa, Ahmadgourabi, & Efteghar, 2013).
In summary, the assessment of the quality of the health care that Memorial Hospital provides will be effective in showing it the areas it should improve. Moreover, it will also act as a motivator for employees who have been doing their duties effectively. Consequently, all hospitals should emulate Memorial Hospital approach in the assessment of its health care to ensure they consistently provide quality health care to patients.
