Personal Leadership Improvement Plan
The development of leadership skills is essential in enhancing a person’s ability to influence and interact with others. Accordingly, these traits are necessary for an individual’s career growth since they enable him/her to become a great manager, who can effectively organize, train, and coordinate his workers. In this regard, the evaluation of my skills using the leadership improvement plan enabled me to learn both my flaws and abilities and identify ways to enhance the latter.

Analysis
The personal leadership improvement plan revealed some crucial traits about me, which I was not aware of. In particular, I was able to establish that I had a significant weakness in presenting critical opinions and challenging existing processes. Additionally, I learned that my principal strength was in providing my colleagues with an opportunity of expressing their views. I also learned that my poor communication skills were affecting my ability to encourage and inspire my friends and to participate in the development of action plans. To improve my ability as a leader and to reduce the negative influence of my flaws on my managerial skills, I will formulate various strategies and systematically implement them.
Action Plan
The leading cause of my weaknesses is my poor communication skills. Therefore, if I master how to express myself, I will be able to solve most of my current leadership challenges. As such, I will develop an action plan that will be aimed at improving both my oral and written communication skills. To build on my ability to talk to others, I will ensure that I have a ten-minute talk to at least five strangers weekly. I will regularly note any communication flaws that I had during the meetings and establish ways of correcting them. In my subsequent experience, I will try to fix my previous mistakes. As a result, the exercise will help me develop the confidence to talk to strangers. Moreover, I will learn how to initiate talks, express my opinions, and challenge other people’s views.
Besides talking to strangers, I will establish a public speaking action plan that will help me build my confidence when addressing many individuals. To become a great public speaker, I will volunteer in activities where I will be required to talk to big audiances. For example, I will become my class representative. In this position, I will always have a daily task of addressing my colleagues about various instructions that have been issued by lecturers. Importantly, I will track my performance by continually noting down my weaknesses when talking to a big crowd and regularly evaluating my daily progress. This consistent practice will help me to become a great public speaker.
My poor communication skills have also led to my inability to challenge processes. At times, I have different views from those that most people agree on; however, my failure to make clear and coherent statements makes me shy away from presenting my views. Therefore, an improvement on how I express my opinions will help me to challenge various processes by enabling me to give sound arguments to support my case. Despite expressing my views, I will still be humble to accept that my ideas may not always be correct or convincing enough. Consequently, I will be ready to acknowledge that some of my opinions may be rejected.
An improvement on my communication skills will enable me to inspire shared visions with my colleagues. For a person to encourage others, he/she must be able to influence his/her followers, which is typically determined by how he/she communicates with them. To promote teamwork in all my activities, I will combine my positive traits of diligence, humility, patience, and empathy, with proper communication skills. My virtues and ability to talk with my associates will ensure they are cooperative and focused. Importantly, I will note down my daily progress and use this information to track my performance and identify areas that I should improve.
Although most of my friends believe that I am good at providing people with an opportunity to act, I am of the opinion that I have not fully exploited this potential. In particular, my inability to orally express my openness to different views makes some individuals think that I am uncooperative. Consequently, the development of my communication skills will enable me to interact with my colleagues and become an active team player. To ensure that I fully exploit on this potential, I will write the primary objectives of each group in my diary and identify my roles and duties. Accordingly, I will continuously appraise myself after every meeting and establish whether I have been cooperative, expressed my opinions, and fulfilled my obligations as an associate. Based on my evaluation, I will be able to identify my flaws, which I will correct. As a result, I will enhance my skills of providing others with an opportunity to work.
Overall, the personal leadership plan was useful in enabling me to learn my weaknesses and abilities. In particular, I established that I rarely challenge processes, encourage my colleagues, inspire my associates, or act as their role model. However, I am good in providing all individuals with a platform to express their thoughts. Based on these reviews, I will enhance my communication skills, which will, in turn, enable me to solve my flaws and bolster my strengths.
