Social Structure and Interactions
Social structures and interactions provide a person with an opportunity of forming relationships and enhancing his/her skills. By default, social interactions are usually governed by certain norms, which depend on an individual’s status and roles. This paper examines my status set, roles, and social networks.

Head of youth development organization in my community
My role as the head of the youth development organization in my community mostly entails activities that aim at empowering the youth. Consequently, I am mostly involved in the formation of development forums that target youths in my community. I also liaise with the government, private investors, and non-government organizations in the establishment of development projects that will create work and learning opportunities for the youth. Besides seeking assistance for the youth, I am involved in lobbying for the establishment of policies that will create an investment-friendly environment for the youth. Finally, I deal with clerical and office work of the organization.
Before becoming the head of the organization, I was its member for three years. After being an active member for two years, I was appointed as an assistant secretary for the group. I learned many managerial activities during my one year as an assistant secretary, which enabled me to achieve most of its objectives. Due to my diligence and teamwork, I was fortunate to be voted as the organization’s head.
I once had a role conflict between my status as an assistant auditor and that of being a guardian to my siblings. Auditing work is usually very tedious, and require a lot of time commitment. Since I am a guardian to my siblings, I also need to spend a significant amount of time with them, so that we can establish strong relationships. I had two options on how to solve this problem, which are:
- Asking my mentor for advice on how to deal with the issue.
- Reading books on how to maintain family relationships and remain committed in my work.
I asked my mentor for advice, and he informed me that I should improve my time management and also strategically plan all my activities. This advice improved both my work performance and relationship. Therefore, I would still use this method in the future.
Social Networks and Positive Impressions
In future, I would like to work as a senior auditor in a multi-national auditing firm. There are three individuals, person A, person B, and person C that can help me achieve my dream. Person A is my manager. She is highly skillful and has a vast network of accounts and auditors in the country. Person B is my aunt. She is an audit partner in a multinational company. She is both highly skilled and adequately connected in the auditing and accounting field. Person C is my uncle. He is a senior government auditor. The best person to contact about my area of interest is my aunt because we have a close personal relationship and she has a wider connection than the others.
I would want to create an impression of a diligent, competent, and committed individuals in my online profile on a social networking site. Accordingly, I would emphasize about my professional and academic achievements, my work experience, and my career objectives. This information would create positive impressions about my personality. In most cases, individuals will look at the following components of a networking profile to get an impression about me:
